Storage-In-Transit (SIT) is the temporary holding of a shipment in a storage facility awaiting further transportation and/or delivery. This service is provided at the request of the customer, or if the delivery cannot be accomplished for reasons other than the fault of Atlas or due to impractical conditions. Charges for SIT include both a first-day rate and an additional-day rate.
The charges apply based on the location of the storage facility, as requested or agreed to by the customer (usually at origin or destination), and the weight of the shipment, or portion of the shipment that is being stored. Rates apply based on the origin or destination service area determined by the first 3-digits of the US zip codes/Canadian postal codes. The first-day SIT rate is a per-cwt. rate multiplied by the weight of the shipment. The additional-day SIT rate is a per-cwt. rate multiplied by the number of additional days multiplied by the weight of the shipment.

Cartage is the transportation of the shipment from residence to SIT or from SIT to residence when the distance between SIT and residence is 30 miles or less. This charge is a flat amount based on the weight of the shipment, or portion of thereof, that is being picked up or delivered.

Self mini warehouse charges apply when customer requests pickup or delivery of items at a self-storage (mini-warehouse) facility. FULL VALUE PROTECTION
Valuation is the degree of worth of a shipment and compensates the mover for assuming a greater degree of liability than that provided for in the base transportation rates of the tariff. Full Value Protection requires the carrier to be liable to the customer for either the replacement value or the full cost of repairs of articles lost, missing, or damaged while in the carrier’s custody without deduction for depreciation as noted on the household goods Bill of Lading.
The minimum Full Value Protection (FVP) applicable on a shipment is based on $6.00 times the weight of the shipment or a minimum amount of $10,000 of coverage. Once this minimum amount is determined, the charge for Full Value Protection is based on the rates listed. A customer can choose no deductible, $250 deductible, or $500 deductible and may request more valuation for their shipment but may not have less than the minimum.
Valuation amounts must be one of the categories listed in the chart. The rate for Alaskan shipments is doubled. FVP is available for household goods shipments only. Should the shipment go into storage-in-transit (SIT), the SIT valuation coverage is based on 10% of the shipment valuation for each 15 days, or portion thereof, that the shipment stays in SIT.
