United States & Canada Transportation

Transportation charges apply for all shipments moving between points in the United States (except Hawaii) and Canada. These charges include the loading at origin, transportation to destination, and the unloading and one time placement of articles at destination. There are two components used to create the transportation charge – base linehaul and linehaul factor. These components are added together to make up the transportation charge or "linehaul." Payments for shipments having an origin or destination outside of the U.S. shall be at total tariff charges in full and lawful currency of the U.S. or its equivalent.

BASE Linehaul

The first component is the base linehaul. This charge is a flat amount based on the shipment’s weight and mileage.

Linehaul Factor

The second component is the linehaul factors. It applies based on the origin and destination service areas determined by the first 3-digits of the U.S. zip codes/Canadian postal codes. Linehaul factors are based on a per-cwt. rate multiplied by the weight of the shipment.

First & Final Mile Charge

All shipments shall be subject to a first mile charge and a final mile charge, which shall apply once at origin (first mile) and once at destination (final mile), based on the weight with which the transportation charge is determined. This charge applies for the additional handling and servicing of the shipment, including services such as additional materials, travel time, labor, and residence preparation.

Origin & Destination Service Charges

Origin and destination service charges apply based on the origin and destination service areas determined by the first 3-digits of the U.S. zip codes/Canadian postal codes. These charges compensate for basic handling and servicing of the shipment, and include the cost of carrier provided appliance service, elevator service, stair carries, excessive distance carries, and piano or organ carries that may be needed to service a shipment. When pertaining to Canadian provinces, these charges also include the import/export fee for the Canadian region. Origin and destination service charges are based on a per-cwt. rate multiplied by the weight of the shipment.

Fuel Surcharge

Our transportation charges include the cost of fuel up to $1.95 per gallon. When the price for diesel fuel is $1.95 per gallon or higher, a fuel surcharge will apply to compensate for this higher cost of fuel. The fuel price used to determine the fuel surcharge is the average U.S. fuel price listed on the Department of Energy (DOE) website for the first Monday of each month.

The surcharge applies per the fuel surcharge matrix to the linehaul sections and pickup and delivery charge if the shipment is delivered into or out of storage-in-transit.

Insurance surcharge

Insurance providers consider trucking to be a high risk industry. The insurance surcharge applies as a percentage of the total transportation charge and pickup and delivery charge if the shipment is delivered into or out of storage-in-transit.

Alaskan Transportation

Alaskan transportation charges consist of waterhaul and landhaul charges. These charges apply in addition to the U.S./Canada transportation charges, and are subject to the fuel surcharge and insurance surcharge.

Waterhaul

The waterhaul charge applies when a shipment is moving to or from Alaska between the Atlas port facility in Seattle, WA and any point within 14 miles of one of the Alaskan cities listed in the rate chart. The charge is a flat amount based on the applicable Alaskan city and the shipment weight.

Landhaul

The landhaul charge applies when a shipment is moving to or from Alaska beyond the 14 mile radius allowed under the waterhaul charges. This charge covers the additional miles from the Alaskan city listed in the waterhaul rates and the initial Alaskan origin or final Alaskan destination of the shipment. This charge is a flat amount based on weight and mileage, and will only apply when transportation via highway is available.
